The park is located throughout two different areas Mandla and Balaghat. It is divided into two major parts Hallon and Banjar. Hallon extends approximately 250 square kilometers and the Banjar spreads out up to 300 square kilometers. The Kanha National Park was established in 1st June, 1955.
The park comprises an excellent collection of Royal Bengal Tiger, Indian wild dog, sloth bear, leopards and Barasingha. Common Palm Civet, Indian Fox, Ruddy and Common Mongoose Small Indian Civet, Jackal are some of the lesser predators in the park.
Apart from that Blackbuck, Nilgai, Sambar, Chital, Barking Deer and Chousingha are found here as well. Indian Common Giant Flying Squirrel, Bison, Sloth Bear, Jungle Cat, Indian Flying Fox, Crested Porcupine, Fulvous Fruit Bat and Pangolin are some of the other mammals.
More than 300 species of birds are available here. Brown Capped Pygmy Woodpecker, White eyed Buzzard, Pheasant tailed Jacana, Long billed Vulture, Laggar Falcon, Pied Harrier, Eurasian Thick knee, Greater Racket tailed Drongo, Paradise Flycatcher Orange headed Thrush, Chestnut headed Bee eater, Greater Coucal, Red Avadavat, Brown breasted Flycatcher, , Indian Pitta and Spot-Bellied Eagle Owl are a number of those birds.
The Kanha National Park is a grassy field and takes in plants like Sal, Bamboo, Segun etc.
